TIME: Couple serendipitously meets on Houseparty, gets engaged within weeks and has a baby on the way:
Jana was living in Seattle when the pandemic hit and lost her job in April. She decided to use her time off to reconnect with friends. One of her friends suggested she get on Houseparty. One evening, Kris, a man in Wyoming, joined the ladies’ Houseparty and an immediate connection between him and Jana began. Jana had never met Kris before, so it was because of their mutual connections, Houseparty, and fate – that brought them together and things happened fast! Over the next two weeks, they talked on Houseparty for hours on end. During the third week of their relationship, Jana flew out to meet Kris in person. While she was there he asked her to marry him and she said yes! Jana says she always knew that when she found the one it would be quick. In November, Kris and Jana got married and are now expecting their first baby this July. Thanks to an instant connection on Houseparty, 2020 ended up being the year Jana found the love of her life almost instantaneously.
DISTANCE: Beth meets her soulmate Jordan from around the world, during a global lockdown
Beth, a Scotland social influencer and her boyfriend, Jordan, a professional football player from Germany, have Houseparty to thank for their long-distance, quarantine relationship. It all started when Beth was on Houseparty one night at the beginning of the pandemic and, thanks to a mutual connection, Jordan popped into her party. After their initial conversation, they talked on the app every single day for hours on end for over two months until they decided they wanted to meet in person. As they started to plan their meetup, they had assumed they lived relatively close to one another so meeting would be easy even due to the pandemic. Turns out, Beth was in Scotland and Jordan was in Germany. Quickly finding themselves countries apart and unable to get on a plane to see each other, they called the embassy every day asking and begging to know when the travel ban would be lifted. After waiting several months for the ban to lift, but seeing each other every day on Houseparty, Beth finally boarded a plane to Germany to meet Jordan. There they spent the week together and realized they loved each other. Despite the distance and a global pandemic, Beth and Jordan have figured out how to be together in a long distance relationship, thanks to a romance that started virtually and is continuing to stay strong through their screens. You can see them talk about how they first met here.
CIRCUMSTANCE: 28-year-old woman with incurable cancer makes the most of every moment by connecting with loved ones virtually
Mikki Phipps from the UK had undergone chemo and a double mastectomy in 2019 to fight breast cancer. She was then given the all clear to go about her normal life and had planned to travel and start a family with her husband. But, just as COVID started to spread in March 2020, Mikki got the news that her cancer had come back, and this time had spread to her lungs. Heartbroken, her life was turned upside down and the only thing she longed for was to be with her family, but couldn’t because of the pandemic lockdown orders and hospital restrictions. Not knowing how much time she has left, Mikki says she makes the most of it by doing everything she can to be with her family virtually, which includes daily Houseparty sessions with her in-laws and parents and “music swaps” with her dad where she learned about his love for Fleetwood Mac. For her birthday, she set up webcams and Houseparty dates with her mom and sister and celebrated from her living room in a ball gown, while a disco ball turned overhead. Mikki says going through this is all extremely hard, but knowing she has found ways to be with her family, even if they are physically apart, helps her cherish every moment she has left.
