While many things have changed since the pandemic began, one thing is clear. Our reliance on smartphones is stronger than ever. On average, Americans check their phones 262 times per day, clocking screen time on the toilet (70%), while driving (40%), and even sleeping with their phone at night (62%). In fact, we’re so attached that 52% of Americans say they’ve never gone longer than 24 hours without their phone.

Additional Findings Include:

  • On average, Americans spend 3 hours 19 minutes on their phones per day.
  • 80% of Americans check their phones within the first 10 minutes of waking up.
  • 41% of Americans say they’d rather give up sex for a year than give up their cell phone.
  • 46% say they spend more time with their phone than their significant other.

Methodology: Reviews.org surveyed 1,000 Americans aged 18 and older, and asked them about their cell phone habits and sentiments. In addition, respondents were asked to refer to their phone’s screen time report to determine how many times per day, on average, they check their device and how many hours per day they spend on their phones.
