California Life Celebrates Dia de los Muertos

Halloween may be over, but for many Californians, especially those of Mexican descent, the celebrations are just getting started.

“Dia de los Muertos,” or “Day of the Dead,” is a chance for families to reconnect with those who have come before them. It’s actually celebrated on three days ~ October 31st (“All Hallows Eve”), November 1st (“el Dia de los Innocentes,” or “the day of the children”), and November 2nd (“All Souls Day”).

As part of the tradition, families gather at the gravesites of loved ones, or create colorful altars in their memory.
