Local town favorite Carmel Valley Coffee Roasting Co. has collaborated with renowned jazz musician and Carmel native, Kyle Eastwood, to create a new signature blend, Eastwood,to celebrate their mutual affection for coffee and jazz.

Since the founding of the Monterey Jazz Festival in 1958, jazz has been a wonderful thread in the fabric of the community. In honor of the Monterey Peninsula’s musical history and in celebration of Kyle’s latest album, Cinematic, Carmel Valley Coffee Roasting Co. is pleased to release this new signature blend.

“When Kyle asked us if we had an espresso that matched the flavor profile of the Italian espresso he likes to drink when touring in Europe, we said, ‘Let’s start from scratch and create something just for you’. The timing was perfect and the collaboration lifted our spirits during this era of Covid.”

said Carmel Valley Coffee Roasting Co. co-owner Janet McAthie.

After collaboration sessions at our coffee roasting facility between Kyle and roast master, Rory Phares, Eastwood was born. “Working with a distinguished musician who has a palate as sophisticated as his ear for music was an honor” said Phares. He continued, “Coffee roasting is an alchemy of art and science. Kyle could truly appreciate this and hone in on the nuances that created his preferred flavor profile.”

“I am really happy to be collaborating with my friends Janet and Dean who own a great local business in my hometown, Carmel.  I have been a lover of coffee since having my very first espresso while traveling in Italy with my family 40 years ago.  I believe we’ve come up with a great blend of top quality coffee that everybody will enjoy.”

said Eastwood.

Eastwood is a medium roast that hits all the ‘high notes’ you would expect to find in a very versatile roast. “This particular blend will please everyone in the house because it can be brewed a myriad of ways. Kyle likes it as a double shot of espresso, his wife Cynthia prefers the drip and moka pot methods, and it is equally flavorful as iced coffee. While it’s new to our lineup, we think Eastwood will quickly become a huge hit!” continued McAthie.

Using organic coffees from Brazil, Ethiopia and Honduras, Eastwood is an elegant yet bold blend. Brazil brings the rich buttery goodness, Ethiopia adds juicy depth, and Honduras rounds it out with a big nutty finish. Combining the flavors of dark chocolate, ripe berry, and toasted almond, it’s a symphony of flavor that is guaranteed to bring music to your morning!

Eastwood is available in our coffeehouses and online at CarmelCoffeeRoasters.com for $19.00 (12 oz. bag) with larger sizes also available (2 lb. and 5 lb.).  Kyle’s album Cinematic is available on iTunes and at Amazon.

About Kyle Eastwood: In the 22 years since the release of From There To Here, Kyle Eastwood’s first album as a leader, the multi-talented double bassist, composer and producer has forged a dynamic musical path. His artistry is eclectic, yet refined and transcends the boundaries of jazz by exploring an ever-widening range of musical influences. While continuing to develop his parallel career as a composer and arranger on his legendary father Clint’s Oscar nominated films “Mystic River,” “Million Dollar Baby” and “Letters from Iwo Jima,” Eastwood has reaffirmed traditions while creating truly contemporary, lyrical and melodic jazz. He has flirted with electro-jazz cool on Paris Blue (2004); delved into 70s-tinged “smooth jazz” accents and grooves on Now (2006); and gone “arty” urban chic on the subtly mixed Metropolitan (2009). His most recent album, Cinematic, was released to the public on November 9, 2019.
