COVID-19 and the Priority of the Wellness Industry

1. What is growing from 2015 to current times?

The whole Wellness Industry is growing more than twice as fast as the tourism industry from 2015-2017, as per the GWI.

Currently, the travel industry is on pause while the world works collectively to fight the spread of COVID-19. Before the coronavirus hit, the statistics show that in 2017, the planning of 830 million wellness trips took place. By 2020, the assumption is this will have surpassed the 1 billion mark. Today, health-conscious travellers are expecting everything from full-blown retreats to integrated wellness solutions which businesses importantly are eager to leverage that momentum.

However, once the market begins to recover, with the right measures in place, wellness travel has the potential to thrive as the post-COVID-19 consumer prioritises their health, perhaps more so than ever before. The current focus is right now is adapting online to deliver digital content and to keep customers engaged, fully connected and ready for future loyalty.

In 2019, they saw the launch of fitness boutiques, and we bring your attention to Tabula Rasa Wellness Retreats.

Tabula Rasa, by definition, is the theory that individuals are born without built-in mental content and that therefore all knowledge comes from experience or perception.

Tabula Rasa is a global leader in the curation of luxury corporate and lifestyle wellness retreats around the world. Whether you’re looking for the perfect package for a corporate team incentive, a personal “health-kick” holiday, or a radical transformation in your wellbeing, they offer it all.

2. As a newly launched travel brand, how are you navigating the COVID-19 challenge?

Of course, it’s been hugely challenging, travel restrictions and social distancing have meant that they have had to reschedule the first half of their season.

In some ways, it will be an excellent accelerator for things they had planned on doing in the future. We think that so many people have found lockdown challenging both emotionally and physically, so there will be a massive attraction to fitness, health and regaining a sense of energy once it’s over.

People are eager to get healthy and feel revitalised again, already receiving much early interest in the 2021 season. Until then, Tabula Rasa is creating ways in which they can support people at home, get well, keep well and refocus.

They are committed to delivering retreats as soon as possible they have increased the planning and bookings for the last quarter of 2020 and the 2021 season.

Some of their highlighted retreats include a unique Safari and Lost city experience staying at The Palace in South Africa. Hosting favourites in remote islands like Kudadoo, Maldives and Andaz Mayakoba, Mexico through to the Alila properties in Bali.

Each journey adventures with unique touchpoints across fitness, nutrition, lifestyle, transportation and bespoke services. A sample multi-day itinerary can include private access to a personalised training session with a specialist, an exploration of ultra-seasonal cooking with a foraging experience hosted by a renowned local chef or a transformative mountaintop meditation at sunrise or a starry sky night in the middle of a private safari reserve.
