Sixth Annual Back to School Bash takes place at the LA Dream Center this Saturday August 3

The Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation (LADF) is proud to join the Los Angeles Dream Center’s sixth annual Back to School Bash as a signature partner, supporting thousands of children as they kick off their 2019-20 academic year. The Back to School Bash, which is presented by Kershaw’s Challenge, is free and open to the public, and will take place on Saturday, August 3 from 10:00 a.m.- 1:00 p.m. at the Los Angeles Dream Center (2301 Bellevue Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90026).

Attending the Back to School Bash are 200 LADF youth from grantee organizations, Woodcraft Rangers and Operation Progress, and Dodgers RBI partners, the Boys and Girls Club of West San Gabriel Valley and YMCA Metro LA.

“We are always ready to step up to support the annual Back to School Bash. As an organization that is committed to youth, education, and supporting those with the most critical needs, we are honored to sponsor this event that provides families with so much,” said Chaitali Gala Mehta, Chief Operating Officer of LADF. “Through addressing their educational needs, food insecurity, or overall wellness, we want every child to have the opportunity to thrive and are proud to call the Dream Center and Kershaw’s Challenge our teammates in fulfilling this mission.”

LADF youth will join 4,000 people at the event which will include activations from UCLA Health and the California Highway Patrol, music provided by iHeartRadio, free food, haircuts, waterslides, carnival games, petting zoos, and a 40-foot ferris wheel. Parents will also have the opportunity to take home a bag of groceries and pick out new clothes for their children.

“I’m excited that we get to partner with Kershaw’s Challenge and the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation again this year to meet the needs of so many people in this community,” said Matthew Barnett, co-founder and CEO of the Dream Center. “School can be expensive, and by providing new backpacks, school supplies, and more for these families, we can play a role in contributing to a successful school year. We’re going to have a lot of fun!”

Clayton and Ellen Kershaw will assist with passing out over 2,500 backpacks to children throughout the day. Said Kershaw, “This is one of our favorite days of the year. Kershaw’s Challenge considers it a privilege to partner with Dream Center to make this day possible for the kids in the city we love. It’s an awesome opportunity for us because it is a tangible way to make a difference. We love meeting the kids and interacting with the families—it is really an awesome day! The beginning of a new school year is an exciting time and KC is excited to equip these kids to have a great year.”

The event is free to all families who will be served on a first-come, first-served basis.
