California Life’s Jeremiah Hartwig got the chance to interview Bart Millard from the band MercyMe and the genius behind the most played radio single in Christian music.
Discover the touching father and son story behind the song “I Can Only Imagine” that inspired the 2018 Christian film “I Can Only Imagine.”
Bart Millard says he grew up in a broken home. His parents divorced when he was three, and his dad was incredibly abusive for most of Bart’s childhood. When Bart was in High School, his father was diagnosed with cancer.
He witnessed his father go from a monster to a man who was passionately, and desperately in love with Jesus, which brought Bart and his father closer than ever.
Bart wrote the special song, “I Can Only Imagine,” based on his father, but he had no idea the impact it would make on others.
To Bart, the movie I Can Only Imagine is a reminder that as long as we are breathing, our story is still being written. We don’t know how our lives are going to turn out but there’s always a reason to hope.
