According to the American Heart Association (AHA), more than 6 million Americans are living with heart failure, and 900,000 new cases are diagnosed each year. Of those, approximately 25,000 are in need of a heart transplant; however, only 5,000 – at best – will receive one due to shortages of donor hearts.

What happens to all the others? Sadly, many are sent to hospice not knowing there is an innovative medical device that could save them.

The HeartMate is a game changing advance in cardiovascular medicine.  It is the hope of medical professionals that patients are aware of their options when deciding upon treatment due to the severity of Heart failure. HeartMate is sometimes a patient’s only chance at survival if they are unable to receive a heart transplant.

Heart failure is a condition that weakens the heart, preventing its chambers from pumping enough blood, oxygen and nutrients through the body. A chronic condition, heart failure worsens over time and is typically caused by persistent high blood pressure, heart attack, valve disease and other forms of heart disease or birth defects.

It’s important for people of all ages to better understand the risk factors and symptoms of heart failure, which is often misunderstood, and take action to protect themselves and their loved ones.
