Mary J. Blige & The P.O.W.E.R. of Sure – Prioritize Annual Mammography


Health issues are at the forefront of everyone’s mind these days and for the nation’s more than 20 million African-American women and girls, physical, mental, spiritual health and well-being is paramount to optimal health and health equality.

However, there are some disparities that Black women face when it comes to healthcare, including mammography screening.

Singer-songwriter, actress and philanthropist Mary J. Blige, along with Linda Goler Blount, Chief Executive Officer of the Black Women’s Health Imperative (BWHI) share vital information about the P.O.W.E.R. of Sure, a new national campaign designed to raise awareness of the disparities Black women face for mammography screening. 

They also encourage Black women to prioritize and act to achieve annual breast cancer screening starting at age 40. The campaign is being led in partnership by Black Women’s Health Imperative, RAD-AID and Hologic, Inc.

As part of the campaign, Hologic, a medical technology company focused primarily on women’s health, is partnering with RAD-AID, an organization that implements sustainable radiology services in underserved communities, to increase access to breast health resources – including screening, diagnostic services and treatment – at multiple healthcare facilities across the nation in areas of need to help increase access to screening for Black women. 

These programs will provide access to Hologic’s Genius 3D Mammography exam, the only mammogram FDA approved as superior for all women, including those with dense breasts, compared to 2D mammography alone, as well as diagnosis and treatment services for women who have breast cancer detected at said facilities.
