Today marks exactly one month until the 2016 Olympic Games kickoff in Rio de Janeiro!

More than 10,500 athletes from 204 nations are expected to participate in 28 sports, including the highly-anticipated reinstatement of golf and rugby.

For some athletes, like 22-time Olympic medalist swimmer Michael Phelps, Rio will not be their first rodeo.

Others, like soccer star Julie Johnston, will be making their Olympic debuts.

California Life’s David Wylie got a chance to chat with Johnston on the Road to Rio. She told him playing soccer has been a passion of hers since a very young age.

“I started playing when I was four. When I was about eight, I knew that this was the only sport I really wanted to play and I never really looked back,” Johnston said.

To reach her goals, Johnston said she relies on hard work and proper nutrition. And she shared one of her healthy eating secrets – the mango.

“Mangos have given me amazing nutrients, energy for me to be able to perform and continue to train at my elite level,” Johnston said.

To learn some of the creative ways she incorporates mangos into her diet, check out our story below, airing statewide this week and next on California Life!
