In her new movie “Respect,” Jennifer Hudson plays the renowned singer Aretha Franklin.
The plot of the movie entails her life as she struggles to embrace her role as a singer. Alessia Stanford gives more information on the movie and Hudson’s role.
Aretha Franklin is known for her many award-winning songs and very successful music career, but little know of how she started. Her father, C.L. Franklin, helped mold her into a singer at a young age, and her husband continued to be a controlling factor later in her life. However, after being able to find her voice, Franklin was able to speak both musically and socially.
Hudson was hand-picked for this role, and it could potentially lead her to another Oscar.
“She’s always been one of my idols, and then for her to pick me for this is beyond a blessing, a dream, an honor, I do not take it lightly,” says Hudson.
Hudson even learned how to play piano for this specific film, giving it her all as she mentioned she would. Alongside her in the film is Mary J. Blige as Dinah Washington, and Forest Whitaker and Audra McDonald as Franklin’s parents.
