As a Special Tribute to Remember Rosa Porto, Porto’s Bake at Home Adds Her Original Guava Pie to the menu

Porto’s is bringing another classic out of the vault to the Bake at Home lineup: Rosa’s Guava Pie. This pie was an original menu item at the first Porto’s bakery in Echo Park and flagship bakery in Glendale, CA up until the early 90’s when the bakery replaced the larger pie with the individual Guava Strudel.

Almost 30 years later, this classic Pie is being brought back to the Bake at Home menu.  Starting on April 6, 2021, guava fans all across the U.S. can order and enjoy this authentic Cuban delicacy. The European style butter puff pastry filled with Rosa Porto’s original fruity and sweet guava jam recipe, is the perfect size to share with the family any time of day.

This Porto’s heritage recipe has a rich history dating back to Rosa’s early baking days in Cuba. The Guava Pie is a traditional pastry not just common in Cuba, but in Cuban neighborhoods all over the U.S. Betty Porto, Rosa’s daughter and Vice President of the company says, “There is nothing more Cuban than guava pastries. We have it on every occasion, at every family gathering, it is a Cuban staple. Growing up in Cuba, guava is everywhere, it was one of the fruits accessible to everyone and because of that, I would consider it one of our comfort foods.”

What started from Rosa Porto’s kitchen almost 60 years ago back in Cuba is now able to ship directly to homes across the U.S. for families to enjoy together. “Porto’s Bake at Home opens up so many opportunities for us to connect directly with our customers both near and far.  We are finally able to bring classic menu staples out of the vault and into the ovens all across the U.S. Porto’s heritage recipes have a rich history and legacy. It’s love sent from our family to yours” says Raul Porto, Rosa’s son and President of Porto’s Bakery.

Rosa’s Guava Pie is priced at $19.99, and it feeds 6-8 people, perfect to enjoy with roommates or family members. Just like the other Porto’s Bake at Home pastries, the pie arrives unbaked and fresh-frozen, ready to go to the oven, with detailed instructions on how to bake it and even the parchment paper to bake it on.
