It’s one of the smallest cities in California, but Indian Wells packs a lot of luxury into its 13.5 square miles.

The resort destination east of Palm Springs is home to some of the world’s finest resorts and spas, as well as the Indian Wells Golf Club, which is the only 36-hole public golf facility on Golfweeks Top 20 “Best Courses You Can Play” in California.

Indian Wells is also a popular destination for tennis lovers. The BNP Paribas Open is held each year at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden. The event is the largest ATP and WTA Tour combined tennis tournament in the world featuring over 300 of the best top players.

Indian Wells, as the name suggests, was once the site of a Native American village. During the gold rush it became a stagecoach stop for gold miners traveling west. The first settlers came in the late 1800’s and in 1967, Indian Wells became California’s 400th city. Now it’s home to about 5,000 people, with another 6,000 who come just to spend the winter.
