The 88th Academy Awards are now just three days away!
This year’s theme ~ “We all dream in gold.” And come Sunday, the 50 nominees will be dreaming of one golden guy in particular. Oscar.
The iconic Oscar statuette is getting a makeover this year. In a process that returns to the Oscar’s fine art roots, Police Tallix Fine Art Foundry in New York is hand-casting each statuette in bronze before adding its 24-karat gold finish.
The Academy says the overall size of the statuette remains the same, but artisans have restored subtle features from George Stanley’s original sculpture, which was based on sketches by MGM art director Cedric Gibbons.
Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs said “The new statuette exemplifies impeccable craftsmanship and the enduring nature of art.”

The 88th Oscars will be held on Sunday, February 28, at the Dolby Theatre® at Hollywood & Highland Center® in Hollywood, and will be televised live by the ABC Television Network at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT.
