The Napa Valley Film Festival prides itself in showcasing new independent films paired with world class wine and food.
The six-day festival, which started on November 8th, features more than 200 movie screenings, panels with filmmakers and celebrities plus food and wine events.
This year’s Opening Night was kicked off with a screening of The Weinstein Company’s “Lion,” with star Dev Patel.

The actor, who has received rave reviews for his role in the film, stayed for a Q & A with Napa Valley Film Festival Co-Founder Marc Lhormer (left) and The Weinstein Company President David Glasser (right) that was mediated by Deadline Hollywood’s Editor-in-Chief Mike Fleming.

A highlight for attendees was Oscar winner Matthew McConaughey being honored with the Caldwell Vineyard Maverick Actor Tribute for his roles throughout the years in films like Dallas Buyer’s Club, Mud, Lincoln Lawyer and HBO’s True Detective. The actor’s wife Camila Alves was their in support of her husband.
“Vintner John Caldwell is the original Napa Valley maverick winemaker, and Matthew McConaughey is the epitome of a maverick when it comes to his work in the film industry,” said NVFF Co-Founder/Director Marc Lhormer. “Matthew boldly inhabits each character that he plays on screen, and we are just delighted to showcase his latest film and to honor him at the festival this year.”

The ceremony was held after the screening and Q & A of the actor’s new highly anticipated film “Gold” with McConaughey and film’s producer Teddy Schwarzman.
