Yosemite Renaissance 36 Exhibit Opens Friday, March 19 at Yosemite Gateway Art Center

While the Yosemite Museum is presently closed, the 36th annual Yosemite Renaissance exhibit will open in Yosemite’s southern gateway town of Oakhurst.

The Yosemite Renaissance exhibition is an annual exhibit that offers an opportunity for artists inspired by nature and the California Sierra Nevada region to display and promote their art. For over 150 years, artists have played an important role in the establishment of our state and national parks.

Yosemite Renaissance was founded in 1985 to motivate artists to share new interpretations of Yosemite and the California Sierra Nevada region, inspiring the public to preserve and protect our parks, wildlands, and natural resources through art.

The 36th annual Yosemite Renaissance exhibit showcases 60 works by 59 artists, includes paintings, sculpture, printmaking, ceramics, textile art, mixed media, and photography. The annual exhibit presents $4,000 in cash awards to participating artists.

The show opens on March 19 at Yosemite Gateway Art Center.

Gallery hours are 11:00 am to 5:00 pm, Wednesday through Sunday. 40982 Highway 41, Oakhurst

Attendance is free to the public!

Due to current Covid-19 pandemic guidelines, there will be no traditional reception. The presentation of awards will be featured on Facebook at 5:00 pm, March 19 at facebook.com/yosemite.renaissance

“The opening reception at the Yosemite Museum in February has been a tradition for decades, taking place in the heart of  Yosemite Valley in the heart of winter. As Covid vaccines become available, we look forward to a time when we can gather together safely again,” explains Jonathan Bock, Director of Yosemite Renaissance. “I believe we each need to do our small part, ultimately contributing to the whole. In the case of the Yosemite Renaissance, we do our part through the arts. Artists express some of our deepest beliefs, values, and desires. By doing so we can find hope, solace, and share our vision of what the future can be with each other.”

The exhibit will travel from Oakhurst to the Kings Art Center in Hanford in June, Carnegie Arts Center in Turlock in August, and the Yosemite Museum Gallery in October.
