What are the upcoming trends of 2022? Will 2022 be 2021 in redux?

Marian Salzman is the Single Vice President of Global Communications for Phillip Morris International. Considered a globally recognized changemaker, Salzman shares her sightings on emerging global trends that will shape how things play out in 2022 and beyond.

At first, her predictions were dispiriting.

“I think the most important trend is a continuation to the trend we’re living right now: which is chaos.” Salzman shares in her report 22 Trends for 2022.’“This unprecedented chaos and the PTSD which comes with this chaos is leading to big, negative shifts in mental health.”

Another shift she noticed was the shift of working away from the office. Many employees are working hybrid or completely remote. While working from home may be convenient, it also poses new challenges.

“People are going to have to constantly up-skill and re-skill in order to remain competitive and have access to and understand how to utilize all the digital tools.”

Salzman also says the environment will be a major issue in 2022: “With Climate change and the extreme weather, mother nature is angry as hell.”

Despite the negative future for 2022, Salzman urges us not to be discouraged!

Salzman argues that these negative trends can push us to be better individuals, with more understanding and determination to keep this planet and the people who inhabit it healthier, happier individuals.

“There’s a lot to be optimistic about, but it forces us to do a lot of re-invention and re-embracing equity, diversity, and inclusion- which is something we haven’t thus far.”
