When you think of Morocco, you may think of Marrakesh’s medina or marketplaces offering ceramics and jewelry.

But here at California Life, Marco Gutierrez takes us back into the Sahara Desert for part two of the Rallye Aïcha des Gazelles.

Each year, women of all ages gather together to experience this unique adventure. Every morning at 6 a.m. the first gazelles start the route.

This event has 165 teams, about 330 women, 16 different nationalities all here for different reasons. Some come for the mechanics, the pleasure or to feel strong.

Elena Sorre from Team 157 says anything that takes you out of your comfort zone and really challenges you, opens up your mind.

Sorre also says that it is essential to work together in this race as the teams face numerous obstacles including flat tires, sand dunes and the constant navigation.
