Palm Springs is known for its gorgeous mountain backdrop, resort-like qualities and being a hub for celebrities and tourism. In fact, the city was just featured as the ‘main event’ on this week’s episode of ABC’s hit show, The Bachelorette.

But what many people don’t know about this desert town is that it’s also known for its incredible sustainability.

Palm Springs is recognized on a national level for its healthy city initiatives and progressive sustainability efforts. The city recently celebrated its 5th Annual Community Picnic at Ruth Hardy Park where the Sustainability Commissions set up shop to meet, greet and continue efforts to educate and unite the community.

Giveaways, barbecue, face painting, pet adoptions and stilt walkers drew crowds in the thousands from over 30 different communities within the city of Palm Springs.

“I think it’s really spectacular that all these neighborhoods gather together to help with the environment and get to know each other,” said Palm Springs resident, Ledia Lopez.
