As the 81st Golden Globes wrapped on January 4th, a cumulation of gala gossip and spiffing red carpet looks have caused the public to psychoanalyze various moments of the night, however, Oppenheimer, Barbie, Poor Things, and Anatomy of a Fall trailblazed the spotlight by bringing home multiple awards. With last summer’s cultural ‘Barbenheimer’ phenomenon, audiences flocked to theaters to celebrate the antithesis between both movies. However, it was last Sunday when Christopher Nolan’s biographical chronicle took home five globes.
Barbie, nonetheless, wasn’t overshadowed when Greta Gerwig’s dollhouse live-action feat received the award for cinematic box office achievement against eight competing nominees. The award considers films that grossed $150 million in box office sales with $100 million of that total domestically sourced.
The HBO series ‘Succession,’ which delves into intricate family dynamics within a morally ambiguous media conglomerate, dominated the night by securing four wins. In the feminist reimagination of Frankenstein, ‘Poor Things’ claimed the Best Motion Picture award. At the same time, Emma Stone was honored with Best Actress in a Motion Picture- Musical or Comedy for her role as Bella Baxter. Alongside other musical talent, Billie Eilish and Finneas were the two proud recipients of the Best Original Song Golden Globe. Lily Gladstone was the first indigenous actor to win a Golden Globe and spoke her native language during her acceptance speech. In contrast, Beef and The Bear led triumphant in their categories with Ayo Edebiri winning Best Actress and Jeremy Allen White winning Best Actor for the second time.
