United Way offers free tax help to millions of Americans and works to maximize their refunds

Tax-HelpIt’s the question every one of us should be asking ourselves this tax season – am I keeping as much money in my pocket as possible?

A recent United Way survey found many Americans are giving hundreds, even thousands, of their hard-earned dollars away on tax preparation services and missed tax credit opportunities.

Those who make $64,000 or less, qualify for free tax preparation services. Filers may also qualify for a number of tax credits and deductions, especially if they are low-to-moderate income workers, students or families with children.

Tax credits and deductions also extend to homeowners, those saving for retirement, military members, business owners and victims of natural disaster.

United Way has created the easy-to-use, secure website MyFreeTaxes.com to help individuals through the process.

United Way also offers free in-person filing assistance through their Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) sites. To find one near you, call 1-855-MY-TX-HELP.
