goldfinchWalk into The Patio on Goldfinch, just a few minutes from Downtown San Diego, and you’ll instantly feel at home. That’s the feeling owner Gina Champion-Cain wants you to have at all of her restaurants.

But that doesn’t mean they’re all the same.

The Patio on Goldfinch, for instance, is very urban chic, while The Patio on Lamont in Pacific Beach is more like a beach cottage.

The menu also varies from location to location and from season to season, but Executive Chef John Medall told California Life there are a few things that will always stay the same, like The Patio’s focus on sustainability. “At least 95% of what you see here is local San Diego or local West Coast,” Medall said.

At The Patio on Goldfinch, you can taste rare gourmet cheeses from their cheese cave, and taste top-notch tequila, hand-picked by their own resident catador.

And at The Patio in Left Field at Petco Park, you can enjoy your favorite ballpark foods with a tasty twist.

California Life spoke with Champion-Cain about what makes her restaurants so successful and her plans to expand.
