Joe Anderson, chairman and co-founder of Benovia Winery, is proud to announce that the winery has crafted a Pinot Noir called “Courageous Care,” which will raise funds for Feeding AmericaDirect Relief, and their local affiliates across the country, including Redwood Empire Food Bank in Santa Rosa, CA.

Courageous Care Pinot Noir honors the memory of midwife Margaret Foley and pays tribute to the brave men and women who are fighting COVID-19. Foley was Joe Anderson’s great-grandmother and she was a midwife during the diphtheria epidemic in 1892. Foley worked tirelessly to treat families who suffered during the epidemic and sadly her own family was not spared. She lost five of her children to the disease. In her memory, the team at Benovia salutes today’s heroes who are selflessly treating COVID-19 patients. In their honor, a percentage of proceeds from every purchase of Courageous Care Pinot Noir made directly from the winery will be donated to Feeding America and Direct Relief. Feeding America is a national network of food banks and Direct Relief provides personal protective equipment to medical teams.

“We are indebted to the brave men and women who have put themselves in harm’s way to care for others during this COVID-19 pandemic. We want to assist Direct Relief’s efforts to provide the personal protective equipment that medical teams need on the job,” said Anderson. “This pandemic has also brought financial hardship to a lot of families, and it’s important to us that their daily needs are met through the wonderful national network of food banks supported by Feeding America.”

Located in Sonoma County’s Russian River Valley, Benovia is known as a Pinot Noir destination. For the 2018 Courageous Care Pinot Noir, winemaker and co-owner Mike Sullivan blended select fruit from two of Benovia’s sustainably-farmed estate vineyards to create a vibrant wine with intriguing flavors of black raspberry, cherry and white pepper. On the palate, the wine’s juicy mouthfeel is supported by plum and pomegranate, with fine-grain tannins.

2018 Courageous Care Pinot Noir is $40 per bottle and the wine can be acquired here.
